[Maya explains, half-pouting at Dandy.]

But now I'm her protégé's assistant.

So why didn't you just become her assistant?

[Maya.. Doesn't sound overly distressed about this. Is she really speaking so casually?]

Her killer framed me, and Nick totally saved my life. So my big sis keft me in chqrge of helping Nick become an even better lawyer! I'm just here right now for summer training.

[Yeah, it's because she's so casual that Dandy can't bring himself to believe her.]

Okay, now I know you're full of shit.

Oh~! My sister was murdered, no big deal! [He speaks in a mocking tone, his pitch higher in an attempt to sound like her. He waves his little hands in the air as he rolls his eyes.] It's cool, I just inherited her lawyer is all!

Hey! I don't sound like that!

[She protests, starting with the most important thing, obviously.]

And it's the truth! We solved her murder together- with her help. Because I'm a medium? And so was she? Remember?

[And, as though it's more evidence, she adds--]

She became a yokai too! I saw her!

Bullshit, if you could see yokai, I wouldn't of had to convince you to pick that thing up in the first place.

[He points...vaguely to where he believes she's hiding the watch. Look, she gets what he means.]

You really expect me to believe you could see 'em this whole time?!

I can! I'm just... Not good at it yet.

[Maya replies, voice steadily lowering into a mumble. It's not like she tries to be bad at it! She doesn't even get why it worked before. Maya avoids eye contact, covering the place she's hidden the watch with her crossed hand.]

[As far as Dandy's concerned, these are all the reactions of someone who was caught lying.]

Besides, if she really were a yokai, why ain't she here with you? You'd think she'd jump at the chance.

[Maya sucks in a breath in a gasp and holds it for a second. Her heart drops, a little bungee dive from her chest to her stomach anf them back up again as she steels herself.]

B-because!

[There's not a wobble in her voice, okay, she's fine. Because she believes in her sister!]

If it's Mia, she has something important to do, I just know it! She's counting on me to be independent! S-so, she can't be here just to babysit me!

She's dead, what's so important?

[Dandy's never been a big family person, he doesn't seem to realize the HURT he's actually causing.

Because, like, who needs family anyway??? Maya's aunt is a monster, he's seen her, he'd think she'd start looking out for number one right about now. That's what HE did.]

I don't know! I'm not a yokai!

[Maya retorts, frustrated. She turns her face to glare at the tv-- only to notice that the episode is beginning to wrap up.]

I have to go.

[She grumbles, shoving hereelf up from the table and reaching over to grab the remote to turn the TV off.]

H-Hey! Go all you want, but I'm still watchin' that!

[Even if time's up, Dandy isn't completely satisfied. He leaps for the remote as well, absolutely willing to fight to keep it on.]

Everyone else can still hear the tv!

[Maya continues, holding the remote out of his reach.]

We have to go before we get in trouble!

[Damn these tiny arms!! Dandy's only other option is pouting, at least for now. Honestly, there's nothing stopping him from coming back later.]

Ugh, fine!! But I get to choose what we watch next time.

Fine.

[replies Maya, more just giving a petty reply than a thought through answer. She turns the TV off, gestures to Dandy, and heads out the room to tiptoe down the hall. She doesn't head back toward her room, though, instead grabbing a broom that's leaning on the wall nearby and heading to the foyer to sweep. She looks back at Dandy just once to give him a shhh! and gestures at him hoping he'll hide, or something.]

[As Dandy follows, he doesn't tiptoe or really do anything to appear sneaky, instead calmly holding his hands behind his head as he watches her get to work. Hiding? Is she for real? Did she already forget he's been hiding this entire time?!]

They can't see me, remember?

[Maya opens her mouth, giving Dandy a look-- but she can't continue, cut off by the sound of the door opening. She turns her attention to the hallway, starting to sweep as she does, and listens as someone begins to step down the hallway toward her.

Maya? Asks a woman.

"Here, m'am."

The woman steps into view in the foyer, now, imposing even though she's fairly quiet.

There you are. You're out early.

"I-- um, I couldn't pay attention... so I came back to sweep before everyone got back."

The woman lifts a hand to her face, scoffing over her sleeve.

At least you found some way to make yourself useful.

Maya lowers her head, clutching the broom closer.

Ah, well. I suppose that's all we can expect of Misty's daughter... be sure and be done before dinner.

"Yes, Mystic Morgan."

Very well. Continue.

And with that, the woman leaves the room, leaving Maya standing there with the broom tight in her hands, staring at the floor.]

[Nonchalantly, Dandy watches Morgan do her thing, only raising an eyebrow when she walks away. Maybe it's just because he's used to people talking down to him, but her actions don't surprise him at all. God, she looks like the kind of person who demands to speak with the manager.]

Yeesh, and that's why I'm never gettin' married.

[Yeah, sure, that's why.]

Well, see? I told ya, no one can see me.

What does that even mean?

[Maya asks, raising a brow. She takes a deep breath and shakes her head, getting back to sweeping.]

Sorry. She can be a little hard to deal with sometimes, but she's my aunt... she's nice under it.

[binch where tho. Maya shrugs, masking any discomfort with a fairly content look.]

But I guess I gotta finish this. You don't have to wait on me, if you don't want to.

[Dandy raises his own brow, it's almost creepy how Maya attempts to mask just how upset she looked a few seconds ago. He certainly wouldn't let anyone talk to him like that, if she were HIS aunt, she'd be gettin' the business.]

Uh. The thing about nice people is they don't usually hide it...

[That's what makes them...nice.]

But whatever, have fun with your chores, I guess.

[Maya's so quiet for a moment, hands clenching tight around that broomstick-- but she doesn't falter. Just a shrug and a smile.]

Okay. See ya later, Mr. Ghost.

[It's not Mr. Dandy, so it's fine right-

she's totally not rushing him off so she can sulk alone, anyway.]
