[At least she thought about it a little, Dandy's thoughts couldn't have been farther from the idea. Back in the day, it'd just be one of those things that meant less freedom, one of those horrible things he lived his whole life trying to avoid. One of those...responsibility things.

But that was a long time ago. A part of him is even surprised just how nonearth-shattering this sounds anymore. Maybe this is what growing up is...]

[But that's a silly idea even for monsters, she's fairly confident, so she's totally not adding it to the scary list of possibilities.

On the contrast to Dandy, the responsibility of Pearl had been a freedom for Maya- maybe in other ways, the prospect of a baby offered new freedoms too, the biggest being one more excuse to actually enjoy parts of her life here. That didn't mean her obligation to produce heirs was completely gone from her mind, though, and children-plural still presented itself as more of an obligation than just a possibility.

After her laugh she grows a little sheepish about being called on it, toying with her hair and rolling her eyes.]
