22. ADDITION. Babies should be joyous things unless you're in a situation where you know you won't be able to care for them. Either you've adopted or found out you're pregnant.
23. AMNESIA. What it says on the tin. Why do these come with such detailed responses?
one; hugging. you just want to give your loved one a warm embrace. be it out of happiness, to comfort them while they're down, or just to give them something warm to latch onto, you just want to wrap your arms around them.
two; kissing. whether it's a peck on the cheek or a deep kiss, a kiss good-bye or a romantic kiss, you find yourself compelled to kiss the other person! be as tender or as passionate as you so choose.
three; holding hands. it's a simple gesture, really -- to reach out and take someone's hand. but that one simple gesture can convey any number of sentiments. what the sentiment is, is up to you, but you find yourself reaching out to take your significant other's hand.
four; carrying. is your loved one hurt and needs a lift? do they want a piggyback ride? or do you just want to spare them the effort of walking? whatever the reason, you're now itching to pick up your partner and carry them to their destination.
five; i love you. you've said it before or maybe you haven't but now you have to say it again or for the first time.
six; dancing. kick up the music, because it's time to dance! but no lone dancing allowed -- you need to have a partner! you can do whatever dance strikes your fancy. personally, i recommend the slow dance, but you can do whatever you want!
seven; massaging. did your significant other have a rough day? did they get hurt? or do you just feel like doing something really nice for them? whatever it is, you're giving them a nice massage now. they'll feel wonderful in no time!
eight; flirting. the easiest way to break the ice or maybe you're just an overly flirty person.
nine; cuddling. sometimes there's just no better feeling than curling up next to each other on a warm sofa. hold each other, lie next to each other, fall asleep on each other -- it's all good here.
ten; wild card! reroll, pick an option, or come up with something else!

As if the roses themselves have ears, Sparkling feels them squeeze around his esophagus, and suddenly he finds that taking a full breath is impossible. His breathing was already labored and shallow before, but now...? It's almost like a threat...
And his heart, of course, is in an equal measure of pain. He's amazed it's not hammering, yet every beat can be felt throughout his entire body. It's not pleasant.]
Sounds...sounds easy, when you put it that way.
[But it's not. He wishes he could just go into further detail about all of his worries, fears, and deepest desires, but would he even to save his own life?
He's not sure. Even admitting to his loneliness was almost a fluke more than it was intentional. He'd just already been on that track, and some flower-addled part of his brain said "fuck it" and didn't stop him from continuing.]
no subject
[Though it gives him a pang of worry to see those flowers grow brighter, it's not as though he hasn't resigned himself to the inevitable outcome. Still, he's trying to comfort Sparkling, not make it worse.
And so—]
I'm no good at it, either.
I kept... a lot of secrets, more than I'm used to keeping, before I got here. Ended up getting a lot of people in trouble.
[. . .]
Part of me still wished in the end that it could have stayed secret.
So I get it. It's hard. Sometimes it's hard to admit things even to yourself.
Lucky for you... I don't think this is the kind of secret that hurts anyone but yourself.
["lucky".]
no subject
You're...right.
[He's right. And Sparkling...maybe it's against his better judgement, but he trusts Spike.
So why won't the words come? Why won't he save himself?
His eyes shift away, looking blankly across the room.]
I guess it just all feels...a bit unfair. To be forced against your own terms...
no subject
[Will Spike get sick too, he wonders? Will he end up laying beside the one he's betrayed, speaking horrible truths into the universe to save his own pathetic life?]
It is unfair.
I'm... sorry you're going through this.
no subject
[Maybe anyone would have because it's the right thing to do, but...with Spike, it feels different. Sparkling has been around him enough times to know there's something different, about it.
Sparkling looks back over at Spike, then, his expression...tired.]
...I do have one thing I want to say, if you'll indulge me.
no subject
[No one says that, because they don't know enough, because Spike doesn't talk to people about his problems or secrets or anything, actually.]
no subject
I have...a friend, back home. Someone I miss very dearly.
I keep thinking...that it's a good thing that they aren't here. That I should be happy that they're back on Earthbread where it's safe.
[He takes a slow, ragged breath.]
...But I'm not.
[And the roses inside of him weaken.]
no subject
[Spike hums knowingly.
Somehow, he got strangely lucky in that respect. But he gets it.
He gets it.]
Someone you want to be with, even when times are tough.
[And, he prompts;]
What were they like?
no subject
[That's an elegant way of putting it, Spike. So much nicer than Sparkling tiptoeing around the truth forever, so instead he'll just settle into a comfortable middle ground.]
Quite possibly the laziest person you'll ever meet.
[...]
But also so...capable of not worrying about anything, ever. Frustratingly so, at times. He'd constantly try to urge me to relax, and to not think about everything as much and just...go with the flow. I wish it were so simple for me...
[He groans, closing his eyes.]
He was the one constant I had in my life. Always there inexplicably, no matter what.
But now...he's not. And it doesn't feel right. Like there's...
[His eyes flutter as he brings his fingertips up to rest at his sternum.]
...it's empty, here.
no subject
Like you're incomplete.
[he lets out a sigh.]
Yeah. Well. That's how missing the ones you love goes, isn't it?
no subject
[It's an indirect confession of a sort, giving him an out without having to actually commit to the idea when "love" is such a scary term to Sparkling to begin with. He cares about quite a few people, and more still he would do almost anything for, but...he's not sure what's so hard about that one little word, but it makes him recoil every time.
All that matters is the way the flowers binding him inside respond to it, and when Sparkling coughs again it's to hack up a handful of petals that look a lot more withered than the very much alive ones from earlier.]
It's...the first time I've really had to confront...this sort of thing.
no subject
[Still, Spike's smile has a hopeful— if a bit sad— tilt to it. He knows just how it is to be afraid of love and confronting one's feelings, and with the ruin he can leave.]
Then again... doesn't look like you have much to lose.
Besides, wasn't it on your mind before those flowers showed up?
no subject
At this point? I'd be doing you a disservice trying to lie and saying it wasn't.
[Because, yeah. It very much was, even if it's more been in the back of his mind than anything since he's had so much other shit to deal with.]
Listen, I...I don't really have a family, back home. Some cookies don't. Not when they're just...
[He turns one of his hands, gesturing more with his wrist than anything.]
...straight from the oven, and all. So I suppose it only makes sense that I would find someone to just...impress that onto. I don't-
[...]
I don't even know what he thinks of me, truly. I'm just the bartender who serves him drinks.
no subject
Straight from the oven. I get that.
Y'know, since we're sharing tragic backstories— I didn't have a family either. I was dropped, straight from the oven, mind you, right outside of a night club.
[Normally he'd punctuate that with what kind of person leaves a baby at a nightclub, but that isn't the point right now.]
I grew up only really getting close to a few people, and... I... blew my chances with the last people I could call family.
But if I came out of that knowing anything, it's that people don't really tend to waste their time spending it with people they don't like very much.
Seems to me like anyone can pour alcohol— I'm sorry, juice— for themselves... If they keep coming back to you specifically, they're probably pretty fond of the bartender, if you ask me.
no subject
[Seems that they're birds of a feather, in some manner of speaking. But unlike an infant unable to fend for themselves, Sparkling was able to go out there and make something of himself pretty quickly...that can't be said for Spike, who had the crutch of a human lifespan requiring him to work his way up to that point.
He'd almost forgotten they'd had a different point in bringing all of that up, and something about those words causes Sparkling to shudder inwardly, like he's being struck with something he's always known, but has never had someone actually tell him so point blank. He has to look away again, lacking the bloodflow to properly fluster, but...the feeling is still very much present there.]
I'd...argue that I may just be the only option, but...you may have a point.
[May have, he says.]
no subject
If it was about the drinks, he'd find a way to get drunk without you.
[He tilts his head up, then, not about to let Sparkling think he's just being sweet and that's all there is to it. No. That's gross.]
And I'm pretty much always right. At least 90% of the time.
no subject
You have such a huge weight on your shoulders, being an endless fount of correct information.
[He smiles, pained but genuine, and lets his eyes close just as he starts to hack up more petals. They come up in thick, red clumps, but that's actually a good thing. It means they're dying within, finally starting to work their way out of his system like one might with a cold.]
I guess I'll never know. Not as long as I am here.
no subject
Maybe, maybe not.
What you do know is how you feel. And that's something to hold on to.
That's— a reality of its own.
[Sometimes it's just a dream... but dreams have kept Spike alive before.]
no subject
[Not that dying is even permanent here anyways. But it's not the permanent nature of death that's the problem, at least in this place...]
He wouldn't forgive me if he knew I just gave up, anyway.
no subject
Cos I wouldn't, either.
[He knocks Sparkling on the shoulder so gently with his knuckles.]
You never struck me as the giving up type.
no subject
[Man...he's so tired. Exhausted. But...he doesn't feel quite so much like he's speaking his last words, anymore. Maybe he'll be okay. Maybe...]
Thank you, Cowboy.
no subject
[He reaches over and gives Sparkling's shoulder a squeeze, clapping it very gently.]
Think you should get some rest?
no subject
[Sparkling sighs, taking in a slow breath now that his airway is a bit clearer for him to do so.]
I think I'll be okay. If anything comes up, I'll let you know.
no subject
I'll be nearby.
Don't worry.
[He even winks as he gets up, stuffing his hands in his pockets. He has to go let Vicious know how things have gone... and whether or not he should worry. From there, well, he supposes it's a waiting game.]
