POKEMON SHIFTERS AU WIP
Remember that cool game, Brave New World, back in the day, where a character could be a human that morphs into a pokemon? This meme isn't that, but it's pretty damn close.
Play in any of the modern regions of the Pokemon World, but this time with an added mechanic. Among the scores of Pokemon that live in the wild are Shifters, who can change their shape from Pokemon to Person— and a few shapes in between, too. They live alongside humans and pokemon alike, and have helped to make human society live in harmony with Pokemon as emissaries between the two.
I'm not including humans with Pokemon Types as were present in BNW for this meme, but I'm also not your dad, and can't tell you not to include them in your own threads.
What abilities would a shifter have?
A shifter would be able to change into one pokemon (with exceptions). Their pokemon form would look like an other, though it may have different colors or special markings to indicate they are a shifter. They would be able to 'shift' forms from human to pokemon and back, including keeping any particular appendage (or shape shifting only their arms into claws, for example) if they so chose. Play with this however you'd like! It may be interesting for a Reuniclus shifter's human form to turn completely into jelly with a Reuniclus core and then reshape itself, or perhaps a magcargo's human form melts into a pool of their own bubbling magma.
As some pokemon can disguise themselves as others, so too can ditto, zoroark, and other transforming pokemon— but only with practice and/or talent. Shifters have an advantage over wild and captured pokemon in that they can memorize more moves, but just like is common amongst humans, less-practiced moves become less proficient.
Can a human catch a shifter?
Not exactly! Like many especially strong pokemon, a shifter can reject a pokeball, and it's not uncommon for shifters to reject partnering with humans in that way whatsover. But there are significant advantages to partnership with humans, including: a strength in battle from strong resonance, the ability to quickly heal damage at a Pokemon Center, room and board for some, community & camaraderie, among other benefits of course. Some look at the bond as a simple mutual interest benefit and others as a sign of deep trust, and others still don't have any particular opinion on it at all.
Some shifters prefer to express their partnership through other means, such as.... [items]
